MOVING TIPS

To help you during the moving process, here are some of our best tips to support you along the way...

There are many steps to take and preparations to make when moving home. The list below details a scheduled timeline, but if you do not have eight weeks before you move to plan, you can contract or customize the schedule accordingly.

  • Call Worldwide Move Management to set up an in house or virtual survey.

  • Separate the items that you would like to move and those you do not want to move.

  • Prepare a list of repairs that may be required to do after fixtures and fittings have been removed and schedule a cleanup plan for after your belongings have been packed and moved.

  • If you would like to create some memories of your current home, take some photos of the home, garden, and family.

  • Sign and return the acceptance of quotation to Worldwide Move Management.

  • Confirm move dates.

  • Retain details of your dedicated Move Manager for future correspondence.

  • Ideally, start removing or donating the items you do not want to move in the coming weeks before your move day.

  • Schedule a garage sale.

  • Obtain copies of medical and school records from GP and/or school.

  • Label and photograph audio, video, computer and other electrical items so that you will remember how to reconnect at your new home.

  • Complete and return your insurance valuation form to your Move Manager.

  • Contact the postal service and set up a change of address order to commence from two days before your move day.

  • Update new address details with banks, insurance companies, doctors, lawyers and other professional services.

  • Make arrangements for transportation of pets and disposal or donation of plants, if moving overseas.

  • Contact utility companies, advise them of the pending move and arrange for final meter readings, where necessary.

  • If you are part packing or packing up small items, arrange to pick up or have cartons materials delivered.

  • Confirm with your Move Manager if any changes, either subtractions or additions, have been made to your move since the survey.

  • Make family visits or have a farewell party.

  • Confirm all travel arrangements.

  • If driving, get the car serviced.

  • Consider what items you will need you will need to have with you between move day and when you move into your new home. Set aside and pack a suitcase so that the items do not get accidentally packed.

  • If moving appliances and you have not booked service through Worldwide Move Management, arrange with contractors to disconnect on, or before, moving day.

  • Confirms travel plans for your pets, if applicable.

  • If necessary, take your pet to the vet for inoculations and obtain health certificates.

  • Reconfirm all moving arrangements with your Move Manager including arrival time of the crew and expected move schedule.

  • Your Move Manager will contact you to confirm that all arrangements are on schedule and answer any last minute questions you may have.

  • Unplug large appliances except for televisions, so that they can be cleaned and are at room temperature on the move day.

  • Carry out final check that you have all items and documents you will need between the move out day and move in day.

  • Drop off young children at carer or with family, or friends.

  • Take a walk through your home with the crew leader, who will introduce themselves and the crew upon arrival. Point out any fragile or sentimental items for extra care, identify what items need crating (as detailed on original quotation schedule).

  • Make sure that all personal and travel documents and items that you are taking are removed from the house, or put in a designated area with labels, clearly stating that they are not to be moved.

  • Make sure pets are safe and not able to run around the house while packers and movers are at work.

  • Ensure cleaners are on schedule, or you have extra cleaning materials on hand for clean up, after your belongings have been removed from the house.

  • Review and sign all documentation including inventory and Bill of Lading prior to your belongings being removed.

  • Reconfirm contact details with your Move Manager for the time between the move day and arrival at your new home.

  • Take a final walk around to ensure all items have been moved, turn off the water, lights and make sure that the home is secured.

  • Be at your new home at the agreed time to meet the moving crew.

  • The crew leader will introduce themselves. Walk through your new home with the crew leader and identify rooms and where items will be going. If you have made a floor plan, hand a copy to crew leader.

  • Check off the items from your copy of the inventory as they are brought into your new home. Confirm where the items are to be placed.

  • Confirm with the crew leader what items need reassembling.

  • Keep all personal items and documentation in a safe place while the delivery and unpacking is taking place.

  • Check that all items have been delivered, placed in the home as directed and unpacking and set up, as required, has been completed.

  • Sign documentation to confirm that all items have been delivered and your move has been carried out to your complete satisfaction.

  • Contact utility companies and advise that you have moved in. Check that final meter readings were carried out before you moved in and check with Post Office to see if any mail has been held for you.

  • Arrange for cable, wi-fi and telephone services to be activated.

  • If you have moved to a new state, province or country, register your motor vehicle and apply for a new driving license.

  • Complete Customer Service questionnaire and return to your Move Manager.
